Amidst nuclear threats and war -related comments by senior Pakistani leaders and its army chief Asim Munir, Islamabad, India has urged India to resume the “normal functioning” of the Indus Water Treaty. New Delhi has kept the treaty since May since May, after the terrorist attacks in Pahgam, Jammu and Kashmir.Pakistan’s Foreign Office said that it is committed to the complete implementation of the treaty and welcomed the interpretation of the Arbitration Court on the matter.Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir requested after issuing a nuclear war warning and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto made statements to take action on India’s situation on the water-sharing agreement.In a statement on Monday, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said, “Pakistan is committed to the complete implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty and also hopes that India will be immediately resumed for the general functioning of the treaty.”It welcomed the interpretation related to the Indus Waters Treaty created by the Court of Arbitration on 8 August.After Pakistan objected to some design elements of two projects under the treaty, India has never recognized proceedings in a permanent court.Pakistan’s Foreign Office claimed that the awards designed the design criteria for the new run-off-river hydropower projects made by India on the award Western rivers-Chainb, Jhelum and Indus.A day after the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahgam, India took several measures against Pakistan, including to include the Indus Water Treaty in “Abeyance”.The Ministry of External Affairs said in a post on X, “Pakistan hopes that the general functioning of India will be resumed immediately.”Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Monday that the decision to suspend India’s Indus Water Treaty is an attack on the Indus Valley Civilization and Culture. “The Indus civilization is associated with this river,” he said, an attack on the Indus River “is an attack on our civilization, our history and our culture.”Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) released a strong statement in response to the comments made by the Pakistani Chief of Army Staff during a visit to the United States. The official spokesperson of the MEA said, “On a trip to the United States, our attention has been attracted to the comments made by Pakistani major army employees. The nuclear subre-demon is Pakistan’s stock-in-trade.”
