Police said Jaipur, a pickup van crashed in a parked truck in Dausa district of Rajasthan in the early hours of Wednesday, killing 11 residents of Uttar Pradesh, including seven children, and injured eight others.
Dausa SP Sagar told PTI that the pickup vehicle passengers Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji were returning to their village in Etah after going to the temples, when an accident occurred at around 4 am on the Manoharpur highway, Dausa SP Sagar told PTI.
Seven children and four women died in the accident, they said.
Dausa Deputy SP Raviprakash Sharma said that the deceased has been identified as Mishthi, Babu, Garivavi, Lakshmi, Vaishnavi, Mahak, Saloni, Sheela, Priyanka, Seema and Sonam.
Twenty people were riding on a pickup vehicle, when it entered the stable truck on the service lane of the highway, the SP said, one of the eight injured is in critical condition.
Expressing grief over the incident, President Draupadi Murmu called the loss of life very sad and prayed for recovery of the injured.
The President prayed for the rapid recovery of the people injured in the accident, “The news of the death of many people, including women and children in a road accident in Dausa, Rajasthan, is very sad. I pray for early recovery of the injured in the accident.”
Dr. of SMS Hospital, Jaipur Anurag Dhakar, where some injured people were run, said, “Around 10 injured, including three women and three children, one of them, a woman, Seema Devi, died, while her husband Manoj is in the ICU.”
Three patients suffered head injuries, while one of the three children is important, Dhakar said.
Meanwhile, a stunned silence fell at Asraoli village in Etah as it reported that 11 of his residents were killed in a road accident in Rajasthan.
District Magistrate Prem Ranjan Singh along with SSP and other officials visited the bereaved families and assured all possible assistance.
A large crowd of leaders, well -wishers and local people gathered in the seat to console the condolences.
Singh said, “We have sent a team from Etah to Dausa to support the victims’ relatives. The bodies will be brought back to Etah.”
In view of the tragedy, Lodhi Mahasabha has postponed Veerangana Rani Avantibai Laddi Shobhayatra in Itah which was scheduled for 16 August.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has expressed grief over the loss of life in the accident.
In a post on X in Hindi, the Chief Minister said, “The news of loss of life in a terrible road accident in Dausa is very sad. The district administration has been directed to ensure quick and proper treatment for the injured. God has provided a place to the departed souls on his divine feet and has given quick recovery to the injured.”
Sharma has instructed the officials concerned to ensure proper arrangements for the treatment of the injured.
An official statement said that Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani also expressed deep grief over the tragic accident, and prayed for the peace of the departed souls and recovered the injured rapidly, in an official statement.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and other leaders also express grief over the incident.
