More than a third of MPs have signed a letter to the Sir Kir starrer for the UK to recognize the Palestinian state.
Some 220 MPs from nine political parties have supported the call, More than half of them labor, Arguing that the recognition of the UK would be a “powerful symbolic message” and an important step towards the two-state solution.
The letter put a fresh pressure on the PM after France, which was a commitment to recognize the Palestinian state within months.
But in a statement after an emergency phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Frederick Merz, Sir Kir said that a Palestinian’s recognition was to be “part of the comprehensive plan, resulting in a resulting result in the two-state solution”.
In his statement, Sir Kir said: “With our close colleagues, I am working on a route for peace in the field, focused on practical solutions that will create a real difference for the lives of people suffering in this war.
“This route will determine the concrete steps required to the ceasefire, in a permanent peace, a strict need.
“The recognition of a Palestinian kingdom is one of those stages. I am uneven about it.
“But it should be part of a comprehensive plan that eventually results in two-state solutions and permanent security for Palestinians and Israelis.”
A joint statement of leaders from Britain, France and Germany, after their emergency call, does not mention the Palestinian kingdom.
But it stated that all three countries “are ready to take further action to support the immediate ceasefire and a political process, which leads to permanent security and peace for Israel, Palestinians and the entire region”.
This statement is important for the Government of Israel, demands an end to aid restrictions and “warns of humanity that we are looking at in Gaza, now it should end”.
The statement also emphasized that Hamas should be disarmed and “Gaza has no role in future”.
