The magnitude earthquake killed Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir at around 1.41 am on Thursday, which caused no significant damage.
According to the National Center for Sisamology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 34.68 degrees north and at a depth of five km at latitude of 74.39 degrees east.
Tremors were allegedly felt in neighboring areas including Srinagar, Baramalla, Gulmarg, Muzaffarabad and Balakot.
However, there was no report of any injury or property damage till now, officials said.

It comes in less than thirty hours after the earthquake shock in Doda district of Jammu.
Doda striking, the earthquake sub -center was located at a depth of five kilometers at around 8.18 am on Wednesday, according to the NCS, with a coordination at 33.07 N and longitude 76.12 in the seasmically active Himalayan belt.
No immediate report of casualties or property loss was filed.
The Kashmir Valley and the surrounding districts, including Doda, fall under the seismic zone V, a very high -risk area for seismic activity, as classified by the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority.
On August 14, a huge cloudbuke pummailed the Chishoti village in Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir, and leveled everything that comes in its way. Kishtwar is currently at 64 after cloudburst, HT first stated.
Earlier, two earthquakes hit Chamb in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday.
With a depth of 10 kilometers, the latest was 4.0 on the Richter scale at a 4.39 IST.

Another earthquake 3.3 of magnitude hit Chamba with a depth of 20 km at 3.27 IST.
