In July 1943, a library book was examined, finally about 82 years delayed San Antonio returned to the public library.
The library stated that the book of Frances Bruce Strain, “Your Child, Hiz Family and Friends”, 28 days later, 28 days after the check out, the library said. When it was returned in June, it came with a letter, which the library Shared on social media Thursday.
The author, known as Paag from Oregon, said that he found the book in his father’s property after he died.
“The book must have been borrowed by my grandmother,” written in the letter.
In 1943, the author’s father was 11 years old and his grandmother was transferred to Mexico City to work at the American Embassy. The author believes that he took the book with him.
The letter states, “I hope there is no late fee for this because Grandma will no longer be able to pay for it.”
While a note inside the book states that the fine for “over densure” is 3 cents a day, San Antonio Public Library stopped charging late fees in 2021. The library estimated that the fine would be around $ 900 if implemented.
The library stated that the book, which the library has described as a parenting self-help book since the 1940s, is to be donated to the Friends of San Antonio Public Library in a used book store for sale.
