Terence Stamp, English actor, who played the role of Arc-Wilan General Zod in Superman films, died at the age of 87.
In a career spread over six decades, the Oscar-Nammed actor acted in films away from The Adventures of Preiscilla, Queen of the Desert, Madling crowd and Valkiri.
Stamp died on Sunday morning, his family said in a statement to Reuters News Agency.
He said, “He leaves an extraordinary body behind, both as an actor and a writer who will continue to touch people for the coming years,” he said.
Born on 22 July 1938 in Stepney, East London for working-class parents, Stamp attended Grammar School before making a career in advertisement.
After acquiring a scholarship to go to the drama school, he shot for fame in the 1960s, leading to a 1962 film Billy Buddha in the 18th century, in the 1962 film Billy Buddha.
His performance earned him the name of Oscar nomination for the best supportive actor and a Golden Globe for Best Newcomer.
He soon made a name for himself as a villain, with a stand-out performance at Superman and Superman II in 1967 as General Zod and Sergeant Troy in 1967.
