Two women were left “Gombamac” after an AirBNB host rejected a request from him as they are from Wales.
Jemma Lewis Guff, 38, and CWMBRN, 37-year-old Jamie Lee Wattins of Torfen, booked a migration in Manchester before watching Australian DJ Sunny Fodera at Co-Oop Live Arena in November.
In his booking, friends said that AirBNB hosts were coming from Wales for gig, before their payment was returned and their booking request was rejected.
When he asked the host why, he replied: “Because you are from Wales.”
Airbnb said the hosts, who did not respond further to the pair, were suspended, while it was investigated, adding discrimination “there is no place on AirBNB”.
Talk to BBC Radio Wells BreakfastJemma said “My bubbly had never been so thundering”.
“When I heard that my mouth collides with the floor, the whole shock,” Jamma said, they were “very speechless”.
“It was pure discrimination where we are from.
“I am proud to be welcoming and that’s why I decided to speak about what happened to us. I want to challenge these narrow ideas.”
Jemma said that the conversation felt her “like an outsider” and did not welcome her to Manchester.
The pair stated that they were even more surprised as the message was from a verified airbnb “superhost”, which requires 4.8 or higher overall ratings and 90% or high response rates.
According to AirbNB, “being a superhast” needs to maintain the rate of cancellation of less than 1% with exceptions of cancellation due to “major disruptive events or other legitimate causes”.
The host had a high rating and was described as “friendly” and “lovely”, Jamma said, who had added previous reviews, were from people around the world, including the guests of Wales.
“I don’t know what the whole country has done to him, but we are very confused, we have no answer.”
Why a host can cancel a host
For the hosts of the house, the reasons for the valid cancellation are not limited, but are not limited:
- Circumstances beyond the control of the host, such as home listing, emergency repair or unexpected issues with an emergency repair or experience site which prevents hosting
- Hosting
- There is evidence that a guest intends to break one of the rules of the house included in the list of houses, is an unauthorized party or otherwise a violation of the party and the policy of events.
- A major disruptive event, such as public health emergency or government travel restriction was declared

Jemma said the questions were still unanswered as the pair continued to chase AirBNB.
“I strongly believe that discrimination takes form in many, many ways, and it all pays attention to warrant and all are equally unacceptable,” Jemma said.
She said that she did not want others to be impressed by such behavior.
In a statement, AirbNB said: “As soon as this report was brought to our attention, we reached the guest to provide our support and suspended the host while investigating the matter.”
