Around 25,000 children are being sexually abused every year in Wales, online misuse is increasing rapidly, shown in a report.
The Welsh government is consulting on a 10 -year strategy to prevent and respond to preventing and responding to child sexual abuse, saying that this is the first widespread long -term strategy of its kind in the UK.
Children’s minister Don Boden said that the “voice of people” affected by sexual abuse will be central for strategy and how it is distributed.
She said that she was already engaged with major stakeholders, but wanted more individuals, organizations and communities to “share their ideas and help shape this important task”.
Consultation on the draft strategy lasts till September and the government said that it tries to run till 2035 for strategy.
It said that recent research has shown that around 25,000 children in Wales experience some forms of sexual abuse every year, but only one part of these comes to the attention of police or social services.
Proposals include encouraging adults who experienced sexual abuse to share their stories and ensured that professionals working with children, families and adults in Wales understand the long -term effects of child sexual abuse.
There are also calls for increased visibility and recognition of support services for adults of child sexual abuse and the establishment of “regional living experience groups”, especially for adolescents, including the rural parts of Wales.
Welsh ministers stated that other countries in Britain have implemented short -term action plans, but Wales was the first to develop “a decade long strategic vision”.
He said the strategy admitted that the measure of child sexual abuse and nature had developed considerably in recent years, especially in online places.
In building plans, the government said that it worked with groups such as adult victims, NSPCC, child sexual abuse and specialization on Barnardo, to ensure that it was “based in living experiences and experts”.
Children and Social Care Minister Don Boden said in a statement: “By developing the first ten -year strategy of the UK in the field, we are demonstrating our unwavering commitment to protect children and support the survivors of life.
“The voices of people affected by sexual abuse are central for this strategy and how it is distributed.”
Welsh ministers also said that they would be “completely attractive” with England and Wales, which would investigate the sexual abuse and misconduct of children by grooming gangs.
