The Prime Minister of Australia has accused his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu of “refusal” over the results of the war in Gaza.
Anthony Albani announced on Monday that his country would recognize a Palestinian kingdom in the United Nations General Assembly after similar moves by UK, France and Canada.
Albanis said that disappointment with the Israeli government has played a role in the move, saying that Australians “want to stop the cycle of murder and violence”.
Israel said to increase the pressure to end the war in Gaza, to “reward” a Palestinian state and Netanyahu called the decision taken by Australia and other colleagues “shameful” by Australia and other colleagues called “embarrassing”.
Netanyahu and his government are facing increasing condemnation over starvation reports in Gaza.
According to the Hamas -Templed Health Ministry, five people have died due to malnutrition in the last 24 hours, including a child, leading to the total number of malnutrition to 222 – including 101 children.
Israel denied that there is starvation in Gaza and accused the United Nations agencies of not taking help on borders and distributing it. The United Nations has dismissed this, saying that it faces obstacles and delays by collecting assistance from the Israeli-controlled border areas.
Speaking to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday, Albanis said that he had spoken to PM Netanyahu last Thursday to inform him about Australia’s decision.
He said, “Stopping the help we have seen and then the loss of life that we are looking around the help distribution points, where the people queuing for food and water are losing their lives, just completely unacceptable. And we have said,” he said.
“I spoke with PM Netanyahu. He again reiterated me what he has said publicly, which is to deny the results for innocent people.”
Albani had earlier said that the decision to recognize the state of Palestinian was made after receiving commitment to Palestinian Authority (PA), which controls parts of Israeli -occupied West Bank, that Hamas will not play any role in any future situation
The move has given a mixed response in Australia, in which the Australian Jew’s Executive Council called it “betrayal”, and some Palestinian workers said it does not go far away.
The right-blow opposition leader Susan Le said that the decision was “derogatory” to the US, a prominent Australian ally.
Earlier this month, a Palestinian protest attracted at least 90,000 supporters, who moved to the Sydney Harbor Bridge, a day later a court verdict allowed the protest to take place.
Netanyahu told a press conference in the weekend that it was “shameful” for countries including Australia to recognize a Palestinian state.
“They know what they will do, if you had this horrific attack if you had this horrific attack right next to Melbourne or right next to Sydney. I think what are you doing at least what we’re doing.”
According to the Hamas-Interested Health Ministry, more than 61,000 people have been killed as a result of Israel’s military operation from 7 October.
Israel launched an aggressive launch on 7 October in response to a Hamas -led attack, killing around 1,200 people and 251 others were taken hostage.
