After the Special Intensive Amendment (SIR), the list of names removed from Bihar’s draft electoral rolls has been posted on the websites of the District Magistrates in the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) as well as the pole-bound in the state. Link users of websites redirect ECI’s voters service portal (Voters.EC.GOV.IN), where the name can be discovered by either epic number or by selecting a constitution area.
The move was directed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on 14 August after the Supreme Court, to publish details of 6.5 million names removed from the draft voter list to increase transparency in the process, as well as the reasons for non-consciousness. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joylya Bagchi had set as a deadline for uploading the lists on August 19 and asked the ECI to file a compliance report before the next hearing on 22 August.
A message displayed in Hindi on the portal said: “The list of voters whose names were in the Bihar voter list until 2025, but the draft role is not included till 01.08.2025.”
Another note states: “With the help of booth level agents appointed by political parties, other village level public representatives and other officials, BLO has prepared the following list of voters whose numbers have not been received. Dissatisfied individuals can submit their claim with a copy of their Aadhaar card.”
Once downloaded, machine-elective and searchable PDFs provide the following field (in Hindi): serial number, epic number, voter name, relationship type, relative name, old part number, old serial number, age, age, and reasons for non-conversation (as on 1 August, 2025).
By Sunday evening, the websites of all the District Magistrates in Bihar uploaded the lists.
In its interim order last week, the Supreme Court said that it was necessary to publish detailed lists to ensure transparency and allow citizens to improve. This directed ECI to accept the Aadhaar card as a valid identity document for claims and objections and to promote widely deletion through newspapers, television and social media. So far, no advertisement has been released by the ECI related to the publication of the deletion list.
