A large woodland fire described by firefighters as “insensitive” and “heartbreak” has been deliberately launched.
Fire crew and wildlife experts were invited to the Baryli Forest Park at Sutton-in-Eshfield, Nottinghamor during the early hours.
Firefields said that an area of forest, underground and woodland was damaged and the fire was deliberately launched.
“A beautiful forest is damaged,” said this. Wildlife residence has been destroyed. ,
It said on a social media post: “It is not just insensitive – it is heartbreaking.
“A beautiful forest is damaged. Wildlife residence is destroyed.
“And cost, both environment and financial, is very large.”
The fire service has urged anyone who has seen anything suspicious or has any idea that is responsible for contacting the police.
Park – On the site of Sutton Colliery, which was closed in 1989 – was built in 1992.
