New Delhi: NCP supremo Sharad Pawar on Friday refused to support Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan in the upcoming vice -president elections despite the request of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.Pawar said that his party does not align with Radhakrishnan’s ideology and remembers how he “misused power” as the Governor of Jharkhand to arrest Chief Minister Hemen Soren in Raj Bhavan.Pawar said, “Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis urged us to support NDA’s VP candidate, CP Radhakrishnan, as he is a Governor of Maharashtra. It is not possible because he does not align with our ideology,” said Pawar.“Also, CP Radhakrishnan was the Governor of Jharkhand. Jharkhand CM Hemen Soren was arrested by central agencies during his visit to Raj Bhavan. The CM requested that he should not be arrested in Raj Bhavan. He will come out and surrender. But his request was not considered. In this way power was misused. Thus, we cannot support those who do not believe in democracy, “he said.CM Fadnavis had earlier told reporters that he had demanded the support of his parties to both Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray, saying that NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan is the Maharashtra Governor.Radhakrishnan was elected as the Vice President of NDA on Sunday. The announcement was made by BJP President JP Nad during a press conference after the party’s parliamentary board meeting held in the national capital.Radhakrishnan has previously served as a member of Parliament and Governor of Jharkhand and Telangana. An veteran BJP leader, he was twice elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore and first served as the state president of Tamil Nadu BJP.
