Two people have been sentenced To distribute chicken in the form of halal meat to restaurants and takeaWays in South Wales.
Hamil Mia, 46, Kilcadon House, Cardiff, who had Universal Food Wholesale Limited, Found guilty after a test earlier this year And sentenced to four years and eight months in jail for bankruptcy for insolvency for trade and trade.
Nofe Rahman, also from 46 and cardif, accepted fraud business crimes before the test began and was sentenced to 24 months suspended.
Crimes came to light after an investigation, due to which 2,840 kg frozen meat was seized from the pair’s warehouse in Cardiff.
Prosecutor Alex Greenwood told the Merthiir Tidfil Crown Court that in a period of five years, consumers of restaurants and Techwae were “actually consuming non-helle products as a result of the criminals of these two defendants”.
In January 2019, Cardiff and Vale conducted an investigation by regulatory services.
It was found that the meat was not properly detected, the selling dates were replaced and the chicken was not cooled properly when taken to a dirty van in South and West Wales.
The court heard that takeaways and restaurants believed that they were working with many different companies and everyone believed that they were buying halal chicken.
Some chicken was purchased as halal meat, but the “cutting room” of the warehouse did not follow the correct hygiene procedures.
It was also used to process non-helle meat, which means that none of it can be described as halal.
It was long at the time when the warehouse did not find halal meat from wholesalers, but continued the chicken supply to the restaurants and takeaWays, which believed that it was halal.
The prosecution said that the names of the affected businesses would not be read in the court due to the “highly sensitive” nature of crimes.
Mr. Greenwood said that the companies established by the pair enabled them to “hide” behind a corporate veil, which was deliberately designed to provide “misleading marks”.
Judge Vanessa Francis said that the pair had a “Cavalier attitude” and he was equally guilty.
He said that “my view is widespread” and that “had major violations in a significant period of time”.
Judge Francis said: “It was a disaster that was waiting for it and it is a matter of relief that it never did it with unsafe meat sent out of your premises.”
He said that “social impact” “was difficult to determine the volume”.
