Those who have been given less than 12 months to live should be spared from paying council tax, two of the UK’s life donation have said.
The Manchester City Council became the one who is considered the first local authority to introduce the scheme last month.
Now Mary Curie and Hospis UK want other local councils and developed governments to follow the suits.
The local government association and the developed administration say that some conscience and support is already available for people with tax payments for people under challenging circumstances.
The 39 -year -old primary school music teacher of London Nathanial Dye is busy living her life since receiving terminal cancer diagnosis in 2022.
But since he was told earlier this year that he has less than 12 months to live, because his health deteriorates, his finance has focused a fasting focus.
In particular, he pays about 200 pounds per month in the council tax.
“A council tax exemption may not take too much, it is not the most tax burden that people have to pay, but it is really important.
“It represents something, it represents peace of mind that is precious to me.
“This is not to worry about small things. Perhaps even being able to bear any kind of luxury because you are close to the end of life that may not be able to bear otherwise.”
Additional cost
People were given a terminal diagnosis, especially people of working ages, can withstand serious personal finance implications.
Jamie Thunder of Mary Curie says that it can give a significant income jerk.
“This may mean that you may have to reduce your hours or stop working completely and therefore they may be your partner if they are taking care of you.
“At the same time you can have additional costs especially around energy. Especially medical equipment … You can get the device from NHS, but you will not get support with the ongoing cost.
“Council tax is one of the large bills you may have to pay. It is also that a people are very concerned about the disappearance especially because the council tax enforcement can be quite sudden and may be a ramp quite quickly.
“So taking pressure to that bit is really a valuable thing.”
How Manchester Plan works
In Manchester, if a resident provides a letter from a doctor that shows that they have less than twelve months to live, they will no longer pay the council tax.
His house will not be resumed after the death of a person or by the end of the financial year for a few months, if his death is close to that cut -off point.
City Council leader, Councilor Bev Craig says that this is a way that expects to reduce the burden of bills in the most challenging time.
“Council for most people is still one of their biggest bills, so we are saying as a council, what can we do practically to remove one of the biggest bills that people have to worry about?
“It is about showing that sometimes public services can be liable, they can be flexible and they can be kind.”
Mary Curie and Hospis UK want other officials to do the same.
They argue that the cost of public finance will be minimal, but individual homes – the profit for both emotional and economically – will be on a large scale.
The local government association, which represents the councils in England, and the administration in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland says that some discretion and support is already available to terminal sick people, but many people will look at the Manchester scheme with interest.
