Officials said a heavy fire broke out in an electronics shop in West Delhi on Monday afternoon, killing four people and injuring another, the officials said.
He said that the ‘Mahajan Electronics’ caught fire on the second floor of a four -storey building in the Raja Garden area, which was reported to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) around 3.08 pm.
A DFS official said, “We brought five fire tenders to the site. The dense smoke had already provoked the floor, making it difficult for the trapped people. Four people were found unconscious and were immediately transferred to a hospital by Cats Ambulance.”
Police said a crisis call was found in connection with the fire at Moti Nagar Police Station around 3 pm. Moti Nagar Shu and their employees reached the spot, while the fire brigade started rescue operations simultaneously, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer.
The DCP said, “The people present there informed that five people were trapped inside. After continuous efforts, they all were thrown out and reached the hospitals. Four of them lost their lives, while one is undergoing treatment,” DCP said.
Another activist and eyewitness said that Aman, Payal, Ravi and Ayushi, another activist and eyewitness, said that Mahajan working in Electronics. However, the police have not yet shared the name of the deceased.
According to the police, the bodies have been preserved for the post -mortem examination and their families have been informed.
The firefighting operation was completed at 4:10, after which cooling measures were taken to ensure that no secondary fire was filled. Officials said the cause of the explosion has not yet been ascertained, and the local police is conducting further investigation.
Sumit, who works at the electronics store, said, “About 30 to 35 we work in Mahajan Electronics. It was a lunch when the fire started. Aman, Payal, Ravi and Ayushi were on the same floor where the fire was caught.
Sumit said that thick black smoke spread, causing nervousness among the people in the store who went out.
“As soon as we saw fire and dense smoke, everyone came out. Most of us managed to come out safely, but our four colleagues got stuck inside.
He said, “We immediately called the ambulance and informed the police about the matter. We were helpless as the flames had already spread.”
He said that many local political leaders also reached the spot even after knowing about the incident and supported the families of the victims.
The residents of the area said that they initially thought that the smoke was due to a minor electrical failure, but the screams of the people alert them to the intensity of the explosion.
A local shopkeeper said, “The smoke was so dense that the visibility was almost zero. It was terrible to see people unconscious.”
A senior fire officer said that his teams worked soon after receiving the alert.
The official said, “Our fire tenders reached the spot without delay. We also informed the local police to conduct a proper investigation into the incident. The flames were submerged in about an hour, but by that time, the life of four persons had already lost his life,” the officer said.
The incident attracted a large crowd of residents and shopkeepers who saw as rescue personnel. Many ambulances rolled the road, while the fire engine worked to include the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
Senior police officers including DCP Vichitra Veer also reached the spot and directed the officers to conduct the case properly.
The official said that appropriate action has been initiated. “We are investigating all aspects, including whether there was an omission in the fire safety criteria or negligence in handling electrical equipment,” he said.
Police teams, including forensic experts, will visit the place to collect evidence and find out the exact cause of the fire.
