A massive disaster management drill was done at 55 places in Delhi on Friday morning, following the emergency scenarios to test the preparations for government agencies.
The exercise began with an earthquake, followed by chemical leaks in industrial and transport centers in all 11 districts of the capital. The drill was part of a coordinated attempt in the National Capital Region (NCR), which was together in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
A senior Delhi official told PTI, “Each district will be practiced at four to six places. All government agencies have been instructed, and rehearsed for disaster management modules have already been held.”
The purpose of the drill is to evaluate the reaction time, inter-agency coordination and public safety protocol in the position of natural or man-made disasters.
Exercise security cycle
The Drill was part of the ‘Exercise Security Chakra’ organized by the National Disaster Management Authority, the Indian Army and the governments of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
People have received messages in front of the drill. The message reads, “On 01/08/25, a earthquake and chemical disaster mock drill is being organized in the districts of Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad. Sirens and announcements may occur. Please do not panic, spread rumors, and cooperate.”

Delhi-NCR Drill Testing Emergency Readiness
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority led the drill to investigate how Delhi-NCR is ready for an emergency like earthquake and chemical leaks.
It also tested how emergency team and civil agencies coordinate during such incidents.
Around 9 o’clock, emergency sirens were heard in many areas. At Mother’s International School, the students fired the classrooms peacefully, directed by teachers and staff for safety points. The teams carried out the triage drill and examined the building safety as part of the reaction after the earthquake.
At Ramesh Nagar metro station, a fake chemical leak was staged. Metro staff and volunteers vacated the passengers. Emergency teams in protective suits treated the control system and paramedics.
