Former CBS anchor Koni Chung warned on Friday that the recent merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media could be a “end” of journalism as she once knew it.
The FCC announced that the merger of $ 8 billion between the two companies on Thursday approved a $ 8 billion merger on Thursday with a deal set for closure on August 7. It came after several controversies associated with CBS, which owns paramount, such as a case with President Donald Trump cancels the “60 minute” segment and “late show the show with” Stephen Collbert. “
Based on the newly formed company Paramount Skydance Corp, the former “CBS Evening News” anchor suggested that it was a part of the network that could lose all its freedom.

“I am afraid of the end of CBS because I knew it,” Chung said on “CNN News Central”. “CBS was always a standalone network. It was autonomous. The news division was autonomous, and it was always unaffected by the pressures of politicians, including presidents, and bean counters.
He said, “Honest, fair, fact-based journalism is being fired and those who practice that journalism, such as Edward R. Muro and Walter Cronchyte, have disappeared that kind of journalism.
Chung blamed the paramount controlled shareholder Sherry Redstone and Skydance Media CEO David Alison for being more blamed for being “tainted journalism” with “greed”. He also called the company’s pledge that it does not implement any new DEI initiative as an insult to her and other women and minorities in CBS.
Many journalists have accused CBS and have accused Trump of familiarity before the merger through their disposal and cancellation including Chung.

“I have difficulty believing what they claim, which is that the ’60 -minute agreement had nothing to do with the merger, or there was nothing to do with the merger of a settlement, and also that Steve had to disappear [sic] Colbert had nothing to do – it only had to do with financial issues. It all smell, “said Chung.
Paramount is facing a deeper backlash for its recent decisions, even from some of its employees.
Veteran “60 min” manufacturer Rome Heartman told Fox News Digital earlier this month that he felt that the company disposal with Trump was “Capitalization” by corporate leaders of parapore and “Fundamental betrayal” of CBS News.
