Former MSNBC hosts Chris Mathews on Wednesday criticized the Democratic Party and said that there is a need to focus on the economy rather than issues like attacking the immigration policies of the Trump administration and defending transgender athletes competing in women’s game.
Discussing the low popularity of the Democratic Party on the “Morning Joe” of MSNBC, Mathews explained the poor handling of illegal immigration of the Biden administration as a reason, “Voting will tell you, open border – open border – what seemed like an open border for four years.”
He said, “Today, Seema has been closed since January and is not out of any Hispanic leader. No one has complained because they know that the bounce on the border was killing the Democrat,” he said.

Recognizing another potential factor in the approval of the Democrats, Mathews quoted how transgender policies impressed the 2024 presidential election: “On the issue of women playing women’s games, that advertisement went into every game event, started with the world chain.
In the question of President Donald Trump’s campaign, a narrator told the voters in the advertisement: “Kamala is for him/for him, President Trump is for you.”
Matthews said that there were 80/20 issues on issues like Trans -people participating in the game and said that the party could not make it a major issue, before arguing that Democrat should be focused on the economy.
The former MSNBC host said, “They have received three difficult economic issues: interest rates, inflation, tariff. And he said what we are running. It is not all other nonsense.”
“I am going to go after real things and strength and thus we are going to win close elections, and it is going to be closer, ‘in 26,” he said.
