Police have discontinued their criminal investigation in the death of former Gogbox personality George Gilbe.
40-year-old self-employed electrician was working in Shobarynes, Essex in March 2024, when he Fall through a skylight,
Two men, now 37 and 49 years old and were with both, Arrested in suspicion of gross negligence,
Essex police confirmed that both of them were released without any charge and no further action would be taken. However, a criminal investigation is ongoing by Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
“Essex Police has everyone’s views with George’s family and friends,” said a spokesperson.
Gilbie was one of the initial regular regulars of the reality show Goggbox, where the families sitting in their living room were filmed while reacting to television programs.
He appeared in the show between 2013 and 2018 and in 2014 between Celebrity Big Brother.
Dozens of people in the world of reality TV, and locals, also paid tribute to Gilbe after his death.
Michael Ire, a site manager for a cleaning company in Halstead, said that he had offered a job to Gilbe after meeting him in a celebrity football match once.
He described them with “good spirit” as “attractive”.

On 27 March 2024, he died at an industrial site in Campfield Road in Shobaryn, near Southend-On-C.

HSE has the power to prosecute employers and individuals for violations of health and safety in work etc.
HSE Inspector Natalie Price said, “We will continue to thoroughly investigating George’s tragic death as a major agency.”
“We are in regular contact with George’s family, and our thoughts live with them at this time.”
