President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin left Alaska on Friday Without a ceasefire agreementHowever, both men described the meeting as creative.
After his meeting by the White House, the bill which was billed as a press conference, Mr. Trump and Putin did not take any question, ignored those shouted from reporters.
Putin spoke rarely about Ukraine, focusing on bonds and heritage between the US and Russia, while Mr. Trump said that many points were agreed, and some were left, about Ukraine. The US President has planned to call European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelansky.
What Mr. Trump and Putin said have a transcript:
Putin: Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen, our talks have been held in the creative atmosphere of mutual respect.
We have very intensive conversation which were quite useful. I would like to thank my American counterpart once again for a proposal to visit Alaska. It only understands that we have met here, because our countries, although separated by the oceans, are close neighbors. So when we met, when I came out of the plane and I said, ‘Good afternoon, dear neighbor. It is great for you to see in good health and see you alive. ‘I think it’s very neighbor. I think these are some types of words that we can say to each other. We are separated from the strainer of the bearing, however, only two islands between the Russian Island and the American island. They are only four kilometers different. We are close neighbors, and this is a fact.
It is also important that Alaska has to do with our general heritage, normal history between Russia and America, and many positive events with that region. Nevertheless, Russian is back from America, tremendous cultural heritage, for example, orthodox church, and more- more than 700 geographical names of Russian origin. During World War II, it was here in Alaska which was the origin of the legendary air bridge for the supply of military aircraft and other equipment under the Lend-Leise program.
It was a dangerous and treacherous path on the huge emptiness of snow. However, the pilots of the two countries did everything to bring closer to victory. He put his life at risk and he gave all this for a common victory. I was only in the city of Magdan, Russia. And there is a monument dedicated to Russian, American pilots. And there are two flags, the American flag and the Russian flag. And I know that here too, there is such a monument. There is a military burial place several kilometers from here. Soviet pilots have been buried there who died during that dangerous mission. We are grateful to the citizens and the US government for taking care of his memory. I think it is very worthy and great. We will always remember other historical examples when our countries defeated common enemies together in the spirit of war and supported each other and made each other convenient. I am sure that this heritage will help us re -create and promote similar relationships in this new phase, even during the most difficult situations.
It is known that there is no peak between Russia and America for four years, and it is a long time. This time was very difficult for bilateral relationships, and let’s be Frank, they have fallen at the lowest point since the Cold War. I think it is not benefiting our countries and the world as a whole. It is clear that sooner or later, we have to amend the situation to move beyond the conversation with a conflict, and in this case, a personal meeting between the heads of the state has been over -overdose, naturally, in the event of severe and laborious work, and it has been done.
In general, I and President Trump have a very good direct contact. We have talked many times. We spoke openly on the phone. And Mr. Witcoff, a special messenger to the President, traveled to Russia several times. Our advisors and heads of foreign ministries were in touch all the time, and we fully know that one of the central issues was the situation around Ukraine.
We see that the administration and President try to help Trump to help Trump to facilitate the resolve of the Ukrainian struggle personally, and to understand this history, it is precious. As I have said, the status of Ukraine is to be done with fundamental threats for our safety. Furthermore, we have always considered the Ukrainian nation, and I have said that it is many times, a brotherhood nation. How strange it can look in these situations. We have the same roots, and whatever is happening is a tragedy for us, and a terrible wound. Therefore, the country is honestly interested in ending it.
At the same time, we are convinced that, to make the disposal permanent and long -term, we need to eliminate all primary roots, primary causes of that struggle, and we’ve said this many times, to consider all the valid concerns of Russia and to fully agree with President Trump, because they have agreed today. Naturally, we are ready to work on it.
I would like to hope that the agreement in which we have reached together will help bring us closer to that goal and pave the way for peace in Ukraine. We hope that Kiev and European capitals will see that creatively and they will not throw a wrench in tasks. They will not make any effort to use some backcroum dealing to instigate newborn progression.
Incidentally, when the new administration came to power, bilateral trade started growing. It is still very symbolic. Nevertheless, we have an increase of 20%. As I have said, we have a lot of dimensions for joint work. It is clear that the US and Russian investment and business cooperation have tremendous potential. Russia and America can offer each other so much in business, digital, high -tech and space exploration. We see that Arctic cooperation is also very possible in our international context. For example, between Russia’s Far East and America’s west coast
Overall, it is very important for our countries to turn on the page to return to cooperation. It is symbolic that, not far from here, the border between Russia and America was a so -called international date line. I think you can move literally from tomorrow, from tomorrow, and I hope it will succeed in the political field. I would like to thank President Trump for our joint work, for my best wishes and reliable voice.
It is important that the two sides are results-oriented and we see that the President of America has a very clear idea of what he wants to achieve. He honestly cares about the prosperity of his nation. Nevertheless, he understands that Russia has its own national interests.
I hope that today’s agreements will be the initial points, not only to resolve the Ukrainian issue, but also to bring back the trade-like and practical relations between Russia and the US.
And finally, I would like to add another thing. I want to remind you that in 2022, during the final contact with the previous administration, I tried to convince my previous American colleague, it should not be- the situation should not be brought to the point without a return, when it comes into hostility and accepts it directly, it is a big mistake. Today, when President Trump is saying that if he was President, there will be no war, and I am sure that it will actually happen. I can confirm this. I think overall, I and President Trump have created a very good business-like and reliable contact, and every reason to believe that to take down this path, we can come and consider it better to the end of the struggle in Ukraine. Thank you. Thank you.
Trump: Thank you very much, Mr. President, it was very deep, and I would say that I believe that we had a very productive meeting. There were many, many points that we agreed to, most of them, I would say, some big people that we have not given there, but we have made some headways. So there is no deal until there is a deal.
I will call NATO in a while, I will call various people who I think is appropriate, and I will definitely call President Zelansky and tell them about today’s meeting. It is eventually above them. They are going to agree with some great people of Marco and Steve and Trump administration, who have come here, Scott and John Ratcliffe. thank you so much. But we have some great leaders. They are doing an unprecedented work.
We also have some tremendous Russian trade representatives here. And I think, you know, everyone wants to deal with us. We have become the hottest country anywhere in the world in a very short time, and we are ready for it. We look forward to dealing- we are going to try and finish it.
We have actually made some great progress today. I have always made a great relationship with Vladimir with President Putin. We had many, many difficult meetings, good meetings. We were intervened by Russia, Russia, Russia Hocx. It made it a little difficult to deal with it, but he understood it. I think he may have seen such things during his career. He has seen- he has seen all this. But we had to keep with Russia, Russia, Russia Hocx. He knew that it was a deception, and I knew it was a deception, but what was done was very criminal, but it made it difficult for us, in terms of business, and it made it difficult to deal with all the things that have to deal with, but it would be a good chance when finished.
So just to put it very quickly, I am starting making some phone calls and will tell them what happened. But we had a very productive meeting, and consensus on several points. There are very few who are left. Some are not important. One probably most important, but we have a great chance to reach there. We did not reach there, but we have a great chance to reach there. I want to thank President Putin and his entire team, whose faces I know, in many cases, otherwise, in addition, whose faces- whose faces I get to see in newspapers all the time, you are many- you are almost famous as a boss, but especially it is right.
But we have some good meetings in the years, right? Good, productive meetings over the years, and we expect to do so in the future. Let’s do the most producers right now. We are going to stop, in fact, 5, 6, 7 thousand, 1000s people are killed in a week, and President Putin wants to see as much as I do. Then again, Mr. President, I want to thank you very much, and we will talk to you very soon, and maybe you will see you very soon. Thank you very much, Vladimir.
Putin: The next time in Moscow.
Trump: Oh, this is an interesting. I do not know I will get some heat on it, but I could probably see it. Thank you very much, Vladimir, and thank you all. Thank you. Thank you.
Putin: thank you so much.
