Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelinesky said he wants a “strong response” from the US government if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not sit for a bilateral meeting with him.
This comes when US President Donald Trump is demanding a peace agreement between the two countries that have been in war since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, although Trump has admitted that Putin may not be ready to make a deal.
Zelansky has said that he has already agreed to a proposed meeting with Putin.

“I immediately responded to the proposal of a bilateral meeting: We are ready. But what if Russia is not ready?” Zelenskiy said in a news briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
“If Russia is not ready, we would like to see a strong response from the United States,” he said.
Trump met separately with the two leaders last week, Zelansky visited the White House with other European leaders earlier this week and met the US President’s meeting Putin in Alaska last week.

The White House has said that Putin was ready to meet with Trump this week after a phone call with his Ukrainian enemy.
“The phone spoke with President Putin with President Putin, and agreed to start the next phase of the peace process, a meeting between President Putin and President Zelanski, which will be followed, if necessary, by a tripartite meeting between President Putin, President Zelanski and President Trump,” White House press secretary Karolin Lavit told the reporters.
The route towards peace between the two sides remains uncertain despite American efforts for diplomacy, as the US government and its allies have attempted to work on a possible security guarantee for Ukraine.

Zelansky said it was not clear what concessions about Russia about Russia were ready to end the struggle. Trump has earlier stated that both Kiev and Moscow will need to reduce the area.
“To discuss what Ukraine is ready to do, let’s first listen to what Russia is willing to do,” Zelancesi said. “We don’t know.”
