New Delhi: TMC leader Madan Mitra on Saturday, defending his party, convicted the victim in the Kolkata Law College gang-rap case, saying, “If a college calls you when the college is closed, do not go.,Addressing reporters in North 24 Parganas, the former West Bengal minister said the incident sent a message to the girls about caution. “If that girl did not go there, it would not have happened. If she would not inform someone before leaving or take some friends with her, it would not have happened.” He further said, “The person doing this dirty work took advantage of the situation.”Mitra also tried to remove the party from the accused and said, “TMC is a big party. Some or the other is associated with Trinmool everywhere … We take our photos with everyone, but only one can tell what is inside a person. ,His comment also came when a 24-year-old law student’s alleged mass-interview continued to trigger public outrage and political response in West Bengal. The incident, which took place inside the campus of South Calcutta Law College, has compared the earlier RG tax case, which revives serious memories of systemic skins.According to the police complaint of the student, three people were raped-Mentioned Mishra, a former Trinamool Chhatra Parishad Parishad office-bearer now working on a ad hoc teaching assignment, and two junior students, Pramit Mukherjee and Zab Ahmed. A five -member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed by the Kolkata Police to investigate the case. The accused has been sent to police custody till 1 July.The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the incident and has demanded timely investigation under the Indian Nana Samhita. BJP national president JP Nadda has formed a four-member investigation team, which includes Satpal Singh, Meenakshi Leki, Bipalab Deb and Manan Mishra, who visit college and submit a detailed report.Meanwhile, BJP leaders from all over Bengal have pressurized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh said, “The incident reveals TMC and their views towards women. I demand Mamata Banerjee’s immediate resignation.”Union Minister and BJP President of West Bengal Sukanta Majumdar was detained by the police protesting the incident. “It is the face of democracy in West Bengal … Mamta Banerjee has ruined it, ”he said.BJP spokesperson Sambbit Patra also said in the Chief Minister, “There is an air of mistrust about Bengal, where there is a woman Chief Minister, there is a woman Chief Minister, there should be sensitivity towards women, so why is there such cruelty?”Political tensions have been deepened by a senior TMC leader blaming the victim and strong condemnation from opposition parties and civil society groups who have demanded accountability, justice for the survivors, and ended institutional negligence.
