Mumbai: A 22 -year -old student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay was found dead in the Pavai campus on Saturday. He is suspected of falling from the roof of a hostel building.
Police said the cause of death is not clear and investigation is still going on.
The deceased, who came from Delhi, was the fourth year student of Metalgical and Materials Engineering. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 10) Dutta Nalavade said, “The incident was reported by hostel officials at 2.30 pm.”
Pavai police said that the deceased and some other students ordered dinner and took them to the roof of a hostel building on Friday night. After dinner, left all of them, except the deceased. At 1.00 pm, his colleagues found his body based on the building. He seems to fall from the roof, the police said, his associates took him to a nearby hospital, but doctors said he was brought dead.
Police is recording the statements of their hostel colleagues and teaching staff. He said that no evidence of foul play has been found in the preliminary investigation. No suicide note has been found, but the police is investigating the case as a potential suicide or accident. The body has been sent to the Rajwadi Hospital for the post -mortem examination.
IIT-B has posted a message on social media, stating: “The untimely death has shocked us to the core and we share the sorrow. It is very unfortunate that a promising career came to an end before time.
