Instagram has introduced three new features to help you share more easily with friends: friend maps, reposts, and a friend tab in reels. While all three are designed to promote connections, a particular, friend map, has given rise to some secrecy misunderstanding.
While the friend’s map has been welcomed by some people, it is fueling online misconceptions. Social media posts have spread to confusion about whether it shares your live location by default, asking about how much control you really have.

Repost your favorite content
New Post The feature lets you share the public reel and feed post directly with your followers. Your reposts appear in both their feed and in a dedicated tab on your profile, making it easier to see your favorite again.
Creators also benefit. When someone rejoices your content, it can reach the person’s followers, even if they do not follow you, open the door to the new audience.

Explore and share with friend map
Map of friend Allows you to choose to share your final active space with a select group of friends. You can choose from options like friends you return, close friends or custom list. You can also stop sharing space at any time.
Privacy matters here. A Meta spokesperson told us:
“Instagram map is closed by default, and your live location is never shared until you choose to turn it on. If you do, only those people you return – or a private, custom list you choose – can see your location.”

Instagram head Adam Mosari also clarified that tagging a place in your story shares a place with your followers for only 24 hours, it does not reveal your real -time location.
If you are a parents with supervision equipment, you will be informed whether your teenage location changes when sharing. You can also disable the facility for them.
The location is updated when you open the app or return to it from the background. Beyond the location sharing, the map lets you detect stories, reels and notes that you find out of the notes tagged with a place from friends and creators you follow.

Friends tab In the reels you are shown that the public content your friends liked, commented, commented, or made. You can also see the recommendations of the mixtures you have included.
