Germany’s Double Olympic Biolends Champion Laura Dahlmier has been “seriously injured” in a serious mountaineering accident in Pakistan.
The incident occurred on Monday in Karkoram Mountains when a 31 -year -old was caught in a rockfall.
Bad weather and region’s foresight stopped a rescue helicopter from reaching by Tuesday morning.
According to the German broadcaster ZDF, the search due to poor lights was to be temporarily suspended on Tuesday evening and will resume on Wednesday morning.
Provincial government spokesman Faizullah Farak said that Pakistan is assisting in the army rescue operation.
Dahlmier’s management told ZDF: “Laura Dahlmier was climbing with her mountaineering partner on 28 July when she was caught in rockfall. The accident occurred around the afternoon local time at a height of about 5,700 meters.
“His partner immediately called emergency services and a rescue operation immediately began.
“Due to the distance of the region, a helicopter was able to reach the site of the accident only on the morning of 29 July.”
An veteran mountaineer, Dahlmier, has represented Germany at the two Winter Olympics, winning two gold and one bronze medal in PyeongChang in 2018.
She was the first woman to win both Sprint and Person event at the same Olympics, and won another 15 medals, including seven golds, seven golds, including seven golds in the five World Championships before retiring from competition in May 2019.
