New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence after the latest comments made by US President Donald Trump about the arbitration of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. This time, Trump took one step forward and claimed that in the conflict ‘five jets were shot’.
Sharing a video of Trump’s comments, Gandhi posted on X: “Modi ji, what is the truth about 5 jets? The nation has the right to know!”Rahul’s position came as Trump, which now he has a 24th such claim, in a private Republican dinner said that he helped to stop the war between India and Pakistan using trade threats. Trump claimed that “aircraft were being shot out of the air … five, five, four or five, but I think five jets were actually shot.”Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram also criticized the government’s silence. “After President Trump’s latest statement, what the Government of India has to say? There is no answer,” he wrote on X. He said, “I would like to believe in the Government of India, but if the government does not tell the truth-then nothing says on the results of the 5-day war-what do we believe?”, He said.BJP’s responseReplying to Rahul Gandhi’s post, BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya accused the Congress leader of resonance of anti -Indian sentiments. In a post on X, Malavia wrote, “Rahul Gandhi’s mindset is of a traitor.” He argued that Trump never clearly mentioned India, speaking about the downing of five jets, and questioned why Gandhi accepted the aircraft about India. “Why not believe that they were Pakistan? Do they have more sympathy for Pakistan for their country?” Malavia asked.Taking a direct swipe, he said, “Whenever the army of the country teaches a lesson to the enemy, the Congress is provoked. The anti-India spirit is no longer a habit for the Congress; it has become their identity.” Malavia ended his attack by questioning Gandhi’s loyalty: “Rahul Gandhi, tell us – are you Indian or Pakistan spokesperson?”The Congress party earlier said that PM Modi’s silence was an agreement for India’s national honor. Also read: Congress slam PM Modi on Trump’s claims of ‘Jets Shot Down’“Trump keeps repeating it, and PM Modi is silent. Why is the honor of the nation being kept for business?” The party posted.Congress MP Jeram Ramesh also weighed and said that PM should make a statement in Parliament. He said, “Just two days before the monsoon session of Parliament began, the Trump missile is evacuated for the 24th time,” he said, highlighting Trump’s repeated claims that a possible nuclear conflict was stopped due to American pressure associated with business talks.Ramesh also mentioned the proximity of PM Modi’s past with Trump, including ‘Hody Modi’ in 2019 and ‘Namaste Trump’ in 2020. “The Prime Minister should respond to himself in Parliament. No substantial batsman will do,” he said.Trump has claimed several times that he used trade pressure to prevent tension after the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April, killing 26 people. India responded on 7 May with Operation Sindoor, which had nine terrorist camps. Pakistan retaliated with drones and missiles, which were stopped by Indian aerial rescue. India later targeted 11 Pakistani airbase in accurate attacks.Although Trump insisted that his trade warnings helped to stop moving forward, India says that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations came to a ceasefire after the ceasefire came to his Indian counterpart.
