The US Air Force has issued updated guidance that centralize and standardize separation boards for service members, which no longer meet military requirements, including people affected by transgender policy changes.
The Associated Press First, an internal memorandum reported the change, citing August 12, 2025.
According to the memorandum, once a board confirms that a member meets policy criteria, “The board must recommend separation.”
The hearing is closed and will not be recorded. Instead, the case file includes a brief transcript prepared after hearing. The policy describes the role of the board for the same factual discovery.
