The South Korean army says that North Korea has started removing some of the loudspeakers used to broadcast across the border between the two countries.
North Korea’s move seems to be a positive response to the newly elected South Korean President Lee J. Mayung, Who campaigned on improving inter-curios relations.
South Korea destroyed some of its loudspeakers earlier this week. Soon after Lee took over in June, it stopped the broadcast with a dimilitated zone – inspired a similar response from his neighbor.
South Korean broadcasts often featured K-pap songs and news reports, while in the north there were noise such as Halling Anims.
In a statement on Saturday, the South Korean army stated that “from this morning, it had detected North Korean soldiers who destroyed the propaganda loudspeakers in some parts along the front line”.
It states: “It is to be confirmed whether the equipment has been removed in all areas, and the army will continue to monitor the activities related to it.”
The speaker broadcast was suspended on previous occasions. But after six years of stagnation, they resumed in response to the campaign to send a nonsense -filled balloons to the south of Pyongyang in June 2024.
Residents living with Seema had complained that their lives have been blown out of noise from both sides, sometimes in the middle of the night.
Seoul claimed that the broadcast could be heard across the border 10 km (six miles) and 24 km (15 mi) at night.
But South Korea, after suspending its broadcasting in June, criticized the move by advocating the North Korean people to improve human rights.
The relationship between North and South Korea deteriorated under President Yun Suk Yeol, which was more Hawkish towards Pyongyang.
Yun was impeached and removed from his post To keep South Korea briefly under Marshal Law in December, cited the alleged threats from anti-state forces and North Korea’s sympathy.
Reunion with the South was always an important, if rapidly unrealistic, part of the north ideology since the beginning of the state – until its current leader, Kim Jong Un left the idea in 2024.
The two countries are technically in war as the Korean War ended in 1953 without a peace treaty.
