New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has filed a compliance report before the Supreme Court before the Friday hearing on the ongoing amendment of Bihar’s election role, which has investigated after a large scale deletion.
A person aware of the development told Hindustan Times that the Commission “presented a three-to-four page compliance report stating that all the suggestions made by the Supreme Court on August 14 have been immediately complied with.” The source said that the ECI has also placed a record -e -status report, which has given details of the instructions issued to the District Election Officers (DEOs) and at the same time those reports have been received back. “The Commission asked all 38 DOOs to submit a status of compliance with court orders, and now compiled and presented,” the person said.
CEC Gyanash Kumar had said in a press conference on Sunday that the Commission has complied with SC’s instructions in “56 hours”.
The court on August 14 had registered an consent of the ECI to adopt interim measures designed to improve transparency in the electoral roll amendment. These measures require online publication of the names of about sixty -five million voters which appeared in 2025 roles, but are missing from the draft role. The website of each district is to host booth-wise data, which can be discovered by epic number, as well as the causes of exclusion. The bench had set the August 19 deadline to complete the practice.
To ensure that the exercise is not limited to digital publication, the bench also directed wide publicity. The court said, “The lists should be promoted in vicular newspapers with widespread circulation and broadcast on television and radio,” the court said that district level officials should also use their social media platforms to alert voters. In addition, booth-level officials were directed to display excluded-Voter lists in block development offices or panchayat offices, so that citizens in rural areas could physically inspect them.
The bench was also necessary that the notice should clearly inform citizens that they could file claims to include in the roll, as well as a copy of their Aadhaar card. A integrated state-level list is also to be made available on the website of Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer. While fixing the case for monitoring on 22 August, the bench said, “To ensure that no eligible voters are left without support.”
Friday’s hearing, initially from 2 pm to 12 noon, is expected to be brief as Justice Bagchi, who leads the bench, presiding over a special bench at 3 pm. “The court can give further direction after taking a note of the report,” the person said earlier.
