Crystal Palace has stated that “Sporting Merit is meaningless” after losing its appeal against Demotion in the Conference League from the Europe League.
After winning the FA Cup last season, Palace qualified for Europe’s secondary competition, but was punished by the UEFA for breaking the multi-club ownership rules.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday biased with the governing body of Europe.
In a strong statement statement, Palace stated that “it was almost impossible to receive a fair hearing.”
Palace said, “UEFA’s decisions and then the Court of Orbiting for Sport show that sports merit has been wasted.”
“It appears that some clubs, organizations and individuals have a unique privilege and power.
“This growing and unhealthy influence has broken the hopes and dreams of Crystal Palace supporters, and does not bend well for aspirational teams across Europe, when the rules and restrictions are unevenly applied in the most clearly manner.”
Palace stated that they would “continue to take legal advice on the next stages” as they are ready to compete in the conference league.
