The Congress has become aggressive against the Israeli ambassador’s comment in India, Reven Azar, who criticized Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for accusing Tel Aviv of the massacre in Gaza.
Many Congress leaders criticized Azar for their remarks against the Wayanad MP, stating that the language used by the Israeli diplomat was “Aruchikar” and “aggressive”.
Former Union Minister Anand Sharma said that “denying human crisis in Gaza” deserves condemnation.
The Congress leader wrote in a post on X, “The Israeli ambassador is entitled to the humanitarian tragedy and justification of the Israeli ambassador for the brutal killings of more than 60,000 defense people, especially children, women and elderly people, is entitled to the strongest condemnation,” the Congress leader has written on a post on X.
“Language (by ambassador) is used, it is unexpected, disrespectful and unacceptable. The world is due to the ongoing cruelty, destruction of schools and hospitals and massive starvation due to the Israeli army. It is an unattainable crime against humanity.”
Congress leader Pawan Khera asked the Foreign Minister’s Jaishankar to intervene, asking if the freedom to speak in India was now regulated by Tel Aviv.
“That the ambassadors of the state accused of massacre around the world will target a sitting member of Parliament … there is a direct connection to the dignity of Indian democracy,” Khera said.
“Will Dr. Jaishankar address the public effort of the Israeli ambassador to intimidate Gandhi? Or is the freedom to speak in India is now being regulated by Israel?” Khera commented.
The Congress leader also tagged Reven Azar in his post and slammed them to kill citizens in Gaza, including people queuing up for assistance. He said, “No amount of whiteness or deflection can obscure the facts,” he said.
Seeing this as an institutional honor, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi sought a response from the Parliament.
“The derogatory remarks made by a foreign ambassador against a member of the Parliament of India are a serious violation of privilege. Even if the central government is silent, Parliament cannot remain an inactive audience …” he said on X.
Earlier on Tuesday, Congress MP Jeram Ramesh strongly condemned the Israeli ambassador’s reaction to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s comment on Gaza Sangharsh. He also criticized the Narendra Modi government’s “extreme moral cowardice” for not speaking against Israel’s works in Gaza.
Ramesh demanded that the Government of India seek serious exceptions to the ambassador’s response.
Did Priyanka say and how Israeli messenger replied
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called the Gaza crisis a “massacre” committed by Israel.
Vadra said in a post on X, “Israeli is massacre. It has killed more than 60,000 people, out of which 18,430 were children. It has hungry to starve hundreds of people, including many children, and are threatening to keep millions of people hungry.”
He further condemned the global silence and also criticized the Government of India.
He said, “To enable these crimes to silence and inactivity is a crime in itself. It is shameful that the Indian government is silent because Israel exposes this devastation on the people of Palestine,” he said.
In response, Ambassador Reven Azar wrote on X, “What is shameful is your deceit. Israel killed 25,000 Hamas terrorists.”
He also claimed that Hamas hides behind the citizens and Israel has provided 2 million tonnes of food facilities in Gaza.
The ambassador wrote, “The terrible cost in human life has come out of Hamas’s heinous strategy to hide behind citizens, shooting people trying to vacate their shooting or receive assistance, shooting and their rocket fire,” written by the ambassador.
Addressing the indirectly raised demographic concerns by the allegations, Azar said, “The population of Gaza has increased by 450% in the last 50 years, there is no massacre.”
