Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two major national highway projects on Sunday With the aim of reducing the traffic congestion and improving connectivity in the National Capital Region in Rohini.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Delhi Section and Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) of Projects-Dwarka Expressway have been developed under a comprehensive Decongestion Scheme for Delhi. The ceremony is scheduled around 12:30 pm in Rohini, where Modi will also inspect both projects.
The PMO said in a statement on Saturday, “This initiative reflects Prime Minister Modi’s vision of creating a world -class infrastructure that increases ease in life and ensures uninterrupted dynamics.”
What are the major projects
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 76-km Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), designed as the third ring road of Delhi, at an estimated cost 6,445 crores.
He will also open a 29 -km Dwark Expressway, including the use of a tunnel for the Delhi section and Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Together, these projects are expected to reduce the time of travel from Noida to IGI Airport and reduce the crowd on Delhi’s Ring Road, NH-48, NH-44 and Barpullah high corridors.
According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Modi will flagged four out of four of the five packages of UER-II, which connects Mahipalpur near IGI Airport to Alipur in North Delhi.
Meanwhile, in three and four stages of the Dwarka Expressway, including a 5.1-km tunnel, which connects the road directly to the IGI airport, will also be unveiled.
A senior NHAI official said, “Both these roads will reduce the crowd in and around Delhi and NCR.”
UER-II
- Length: 75.71 km (54.21 km in Delhi, 21.50 km in Haryana).
- Cost: 6,445 crores.
- Package: five in total; Today four are being inaugurated.
The newly finished highway project will provide rapid access from Gurugram, West and South Delhi to NH -44, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir, ignoring Daula Kuan and the ring road of the city.
The project also marks a step towards stability, using about 1 million metric tons of non -inertia recovered through biomming of heritage landfill waste in Delhi.
The UER-II will be connected to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, which will start from the Akhdanam temple, which will enable the route from Haryana and Rajasthan to Dehradun.
A new 65 km highway has also been approved from Tronica City to Under-Construction FNG Expressway. In the future, the corridor will add five major NCR Expressway: Delhi-Dehradun, Delhi-Maryut, Noida-Greater Noida, Dand-Faridabad and Yamuna Expressway.
Dwarka Expressway
- Delhi stretch: 10.1 km, including tunnel to IGI Airport.
- Haryana Stretch: NH -48 was inaugurated in 29 km, March 2024 between Mahipalpur and Kherki Daula.
The Dwarka Expressway, which extends a total of 29 km, has been developed in two parts of Delhi and Haryana. The Delhi Stretch, at a distance of 10.1 km, includes a 5.1 km tunnel that directly connects the corridor to the Indira Gandhi International Airport, providing rapid and easy access to air travelers.
The Haryana section was inaugurated in March 2024, covering 29 km between Mahipalpur and Kherki Daula on National Highway -48 in March 2024.
Once completely operational, the expressway is expected to reduce the crowd on the busy Delhi-Gurugram route, which is significantly improving connectivity for passengers from West Delhi and nearby NCR suburbs.
