The Metropolitan police have said that one hundred people have been arrested and dozens of weapons have been seized before the Noting Hill Carnival at the end of this week, the Metropolitan Police has said.
The arrest, due to which 21 people were brought back to jail, “intends to interrupt and stop those who have the biggest risk for public safety at the Carnival”, said the Scotland Yard.
As part of the operation, the authorities gave 11 fire scriptures and more than 40 knives when the conditions of police bail or probation license with 266 people were not involved in the carnival this year.
CMDR Charmain Brenyah said that arrests would serve as “an important preventive” for those wishing to “get involved in violence and other criminals”.
Millions of people are expected at Europe’s largest street party which runs from Saturday to Monday.
CMDR BRENYAH said: “The vast majority come to having fun and enjoy themselves, celebrate the Caribbean culture, to dance, dance, eat and go home with nothing but good memories.
“Sadly, we know that minorities come with less positive intentions and in recent years it has been played as serious violence including three tragic events where life has been taken.”
He said: “Our policing plan makes a priority to deal with serious violence, which is why we have carried out intelligence interventions against groups and individuals that we have the biggest risk to protect other carnival-goals.”
