After attacking a woman on the road, a person has been jailed for nine years, causing her brain to be damaged.
Michael Harvey was first convicted of attempting to kill 41 -year -old Carol O’Relli, briefly in a relationship on 1 October 2023.
He repeatedly hit his head from the ground during an attack at the Glasgow City Center, which was captured by CCTV.
Ms. O’Rilie is now living with permanent losses for her brain and some memory loss. She has also been detected epilepsy and takes medicines for seizure.
He told BBC Scotland News that he had to learn how to walk, talk and swallow how to walk after spending six months in the hospital.
She said that the way she speaks has changed since the attack.
“I don’t like my speech anymore,” she said. “Sometimes, I listen back to old voice notes [of myself]I really spoke fast. ,
Ms. O’Relli broke her back, neck, cheek bone, eye-plan and bones in the nose.
He has three surgery on his brain, including a cranialctomy. This is the place where the part of the skull is removed to operate and the bone is kept alive in the stomach.
She said that she now struggles to do some everyday things like inserting a box in her hair.
“I can’t put a bra, either I need to wear a game,” he said. And it is difficult to try to grab the luggage with my hand.
“I’m just tired all the time, I don’t really go out so much, I don’t trust people.”
In the High Court in Glasgow, Harvey was sentenced to nine -year sentence for attempting murder and two years for attempting to defeat the end of justice. The sentence will work at the same time.
Ms. O’Rili has questions how the police handled the incidents that night.
The officials r
He said that the police placed him in his van with his attacker and dropped him into the Glasgow Royal Information.
Harvey discharged him without receiving medical treatment.
The pair returned to the hotel they were sharing at the Glasgow City Center. Harvey was to be taken back to her room where the attack continued.
The next morning he was searched unconscious by the hotel staff when he was late for a checkout and the police were called.
“Why, why he left me with him and put me behind the van,” he said.
“They should have separated us – one of them takes me to the hospital, the other takes him to the cells, until they can see CCTV.”
He said that the footage hit his head from the bus stop.
“It could have been a murder, I could have died. And my children would be left without mother.”
The BBC put these points in the police Scotland, asking why Ms. O’Rilie was not separated from her attacker, why Michael Harvey was not arrested and if the police Scotland would apologize to her.
Police Scotland said: “On Sunday, October 1, 2023, the authorities participated in Waterloo Street, Glasgow after an attack report. No criminals were established at that time after interrogation at the scene and talking to the witnesses.
“The injuries presented did not need to call an ambulance, although the officials present took two people to the hospital for evaluation.
“Police Scotland referred to the circumstances of the incident to the Police Investigation and Review Commissioner (PIRC), who has a recommendation which has been implemented.
“We have not received a complaint related to this case, although we will encourage anyone with concerns to come forward and talk to us.”
PIRC gave its conclusions to the Chief Constable in December last year.
Ms. O’Rilie has never been given access to the report. The BBC also requested to see it but was denied.
The BBC Scotland News asked the police Scotland that Ms. O’Rili should contact directly to ask for the report but refused to reply.
‘Carroll has turned into a person’
Her sister Donna O’Selli said that it should not be so difficult to receive answers for the family.
“The victim must have a priority. Because it is those who need an answer to move forward,” he said.
“This is very difficult because Carol has turned into a person and obviously we are trying to ensure that he is fine.
“And we cannot give him those answers because we don’t need them because we don’t know them … so it’s difficult.”
The family says that what they want now is closed.
Harvey’s sentence is a step towards him.
But Ms. O’Rili is still left with questions and there is no clear direction how she gets an answer.
Asked what she wants for the rest of her life, she said: “To be a mother again, obviously it is a full -time mummy.
“But I was always active with them. And now I can’t do this way.”
BBC Scotland News asked PIRC for its conclusions in the case.
It said: “We investigated the circumstances around the serious injury of a 39 -year -old woman on 1 October 2023 in Glasgow after police contact.
“Our report was provided to the chief constable and is now a case for the police Scotland. We consider our report confidential and hence there is nothing further.
“Our report is confidential for various reasons such as ongoing legal proceedings, security of oblivion or data security.”
