New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday paid tribute to his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 81st birth anniversary.In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi praised his father’s kind nature and described him as a symbol of goodwill. “An India – where every citizen is respected, where there is goodwill, and the country is strong with democracy and constitution. Papa, while fulfilling this dream, you have imagined that this is the goal of my life. ,Priyanka Gandhi also recalled her father and said, “From you, we have inherited the values of compassion, love and patriotism.The All India Congress Committee organized a memorial program at Rajiv Gandhi’s Memorial, Veer Bhumi, where Congress President Mallikrajun Kharge, KC Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were present.Kharge said, “Today, as we inspect the best, we remember a notable leader Rajiv Gandhi, who inspired Asha among millions and inspired India in the 21st century.”He said that the innumerable achievements of Rajiv Gandhi brought transformational changes in the country. He said in a post, “We give him our deep respect on his birth anniversary.”Rajiv Gandhi took charge of the Congress after the assassination of his mother and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984. He became the country’s youngest Prime Minister at the age of 40, holding office in October 1984, and served till December 2, 1989.Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was murdered on May 21, 1991 during an election rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, by a liberation tiger of a suicide bomber.During its tenure, India saw the beginning of economic modernization with a strong push for technology, telecommunications and education reforms.
