Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and five -term MP from Bihar, Rajiv Pratap Rudy won the Constitution Club election for the post of Secretary (Administration), who defeated the leader of the fellow party and the former Union Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Sanjeev Balan on Tuesday night.
Announcing his victory, Rudy told Mediaperson on Tuesday, “I can win by more than 100 votes … and if it is multiplied by 1,000 voters, the number is up to 1 lakh … This is the victory of my panel”.
While Rudy, who has been at the top of the club for more than two decades, received 391 out of 707 votes, his rival, Balyan got 291. The club has 1,200 members of which 707 cast their votes.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, several Union Ministers, Congress President Mallikrajun Kharge, UPA President Sonia Gandhi were among the prominent leaders who cast their votes.

On the condition of anonymity, a senior legalist said that elections were not easy, at least for BJP leaders, because they had to choose the side.
“This was difficult for those of us with whom there are cordial relations …”, he said.
Another legalist of the opposition side said that the election “contested the election like any other”.
“There was general material including caste factor …” said the lawmaker.
There were many leaders who remained about their choice but some other people like Nishikant Dubey said that it was time for change.
“Have you ever seen such a crowd in the Constitution Club election in the last 25 years? The reason for this is that the MPs had no to say here. This club was of IAS, IPS officers, middlemen and businessmen. The dignity has returned today. Senior members are coming to vote and want to change,” Dab told the media person.
The Constitution Club was opened in February 1947 with the aim of allowing social contacts among political leaders and providing facilities of a club to members, headed as the former officer of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
