Veerar Lake, one of the seven lakes supplying potable water for the residents of Mumbai, started flowing on Monday at around 2.45 pm.
Mumbai and its suburbs have been watching tireless rains for the last three days, causing traffic snarl, waterfalls in many parts of the city and many casualties. The Meteorological Department of India has issued a red warning for Tuesday, which warns of the possibility of very heavy rainfall. In response, the authorities have ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in the city for the day.
Beyond Mumbai, many areas of Maharashtra, including Ratnagiri, Raigad and Hingoli, have also received heavy rainfall.

- In Mumbai and its suburbs, several low-fledged areas were carried out after a steady decline in the city on Monday, causing serious traffic disruption. The trees falling in some parts of the city joined the difficulties of the passengers.
- The Bhanmarm Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Monday that all schools and colleges in Mumbai and its suburbs would remain closed on Tuesday after a red warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
- IndiGo Airlines released a travel advisor on Tuesday at 6 am, urging passengers to leave the airport early as several approaches were carried out by roads, resulting in dull traffic.
- Meanwhile, Veerar Lake – One of the seven lakes supplying potable water to Mumbai continued to flow at around 2:45 am on Monday. According to BMC, the maximum storage capacity of the lake is 27,698 million liters (276.98 crore liters).
- Across Maharashtra, seven people have died in rain -related incidents so far, the office of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said in a post on X after reviewing the situation with the state ministers and officials.
- “Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Hingoli have received heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for August 17 to 21. Therefore, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered the officials to be vigilant in the coming days as well.”
- Mumbai also saw many tragic incidents on Monday. Hindustan Times reported that a 35 -year -old Chowkidar, Satish Tirke, died in a wall collapse while working in the Godrej bug apartment.
- In another incident in Valmiki Nagar, a person was swept away in a drain on Monday afternoon. The search operations were started by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Fire Brigade, but it was not found until late Monday night.
- In another tragic incident, a 40 -year -old woman, Yulogius Selvaraj, and her seven -year -old son, Anthony died on a road while crossing a road after lifting from school on Monday. Female daughters, Celina (12) and Egustane (9), survived.
- Rainfall at several places in Mumbai violated a 150 mm mark on Monday. In three days, some in some 81 hours, Mumbai recorded a total of 550 mm rainfall, which is just 10 mm less than the average of August.
