Swift action by local residents led two other individuals to lead to safe rescue of all children.Govind Singh Ratanu, a sub-divisional officer, said, “Many school children got stuck in the middle when their school van stopped in the middle due to heavy rains. Local people rescued the children. Two more people have also been saved.”Ajmer was one of the worst cities, in which the government -run Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in rain water was flooded and disrupted normal functioning. A local visitor said, “It has been raining since 5 am today. Rain Water has entered many parts of the hospital.”Ajmer Municipal Corporation Health Officer Prithviraj Singh urged the residents to remain inside the house amid the red alert issued by the Meteorological Department. He said, “Today’s red alert has been announced by the Meteorological Department. All the common people are asked to live in their homes. Where there is excessive water, the general public knows about all the affected areas; so, they should avoid going out and pay special attention to those places,” he said.Following the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner, teams with engineers, sanitation staff and healthcare workers have been deployed in weak areas for waterlogging.In Pushkar, tireless rain houses and shops were submerged for several hours in the main market area, in which vehicles were seen floating on the roads of the waterfall. In Kota, the authorities reopen the barrage gates after continuous rains. Sikar also recorded rapid rainfall and water accumulation in several parts.The Meteorological Department of India (IMD) has estimated “extremely heavy rainfall” in parts of eastern and western Rajasthan. Red alerts have been issued for Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bundi, Kota, Tonk and Pali. Orange Alert has been voiced for ten districts including Rajsamand, while yellow alerts cover Jaipur, Jodhpur, Sikar and others.According to IMD, Ajmer is expected to receive up to 79 mm rainfall today, the maximum and minimum temperatures respectively at 29 and 22.5 ° C. The heaviest rainfall was recorded at 17 cm in Sangod (Kota), followed by Pilibanga (Hanumangarh) at 11 cm.Meanwhile, a depression around northwest Madhya Pradesh and southwest Uttar Pradesh is being extracted from west-north-western and is expected to affect East Rajasthan in the next 24 hours.Rescue and relief efforts are going on in the affected districts, the authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.(With input from agencies)
