Slovenian MPs became the first Eastern European country to legalize a law on Friday, to allow a medical-aided suicide for terminal-ELL adults, in a change in regional end-life policy.
The MPs of the country passed the bill in favor of 50 votes, against 34 and a closely viewed parliamentary vote with three trains. Vote also focused on a national referendum, in which the rights of life-life were expanded.
The law comes after a counselor referendum last year in which 55% of the voters supported the right to autonomy of life. While the move is being praised as a historic, the implementation of the law will not be immediate as procedures and oversight mechanisms are still being developed.
The law is applied to terminally sick adults who are experiencing unbearable pain with the possibility of improvement. To qualify the candidates, they must be mentally capable and have already abolished their available treatment options. People suffering from completely mental illness will be excluded from eligibility. The patient has to be informed, voluntary and frequent consent. It is believed that the procedure may require evaluation by many medical professionals.

Although it is seen as a historical step, it will not be implemented immediately as the detailed processes and the oversight mechanisms are still being finalized.
“This is a win for compassion and dignity,” said an MP in support of the bill. A civil rights group opposed the law referendum to reverse the measure.
