man Joe was murdered in Downpatric, County Down, Sunday has been remembered as a very loving father and a loving grandfather.
He is named as Stephen Branigan in his 50s.
A dead body was found that after a report, on Sunday, at around 12:00 BST, officers went to a house in Marion Park.
A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing a local priest along with the murder.
Police said that a line of investigation is that murder May be associated with an attack on Fr John MurrayAt St. Patrick’s Church in the city.
In the notice of a death, Mr. Branigan was remembered as a “cute cute” husband, who was the “very love” of two daughters and “loving grandfather” of six.
Marion Park is a small housing estate, away from Saul Street, above Downpatric and ignores the playgrounds at Lake Tinnity School.
On Monday, the outer police cordon was removed, but a police attendance at the top of the estate remained around the house where Mr. Branigan was found to be dead.
Talking to BBC News NI on Monday, Social Democratic and Labor Party (SDLP) councilor connor Galbreth said that the victim was a local painter and decorator.
He said, “He was always known as a cool child in the Marion Park area and was always ready to help whenever neighbors need it.”
He met two daughters of the victim on Sunday and described them as “completely, completely destroyed”.
Hundreds of people participated in a vigilance at the Church of St. Brigade in Downpatric on Sunday evening.
“It seemed that they had the opportunity to support each other to bring the community together,” he said.
“It was really good to see the community together after such terrible events yesterday.”
Bishop Allen McGukian said he has not yet talked to the Branigan family, but “looking out for the local priests”.
Bishop McGukian told BBC Radio Ulster’s Evening Extra Program, “I hope to go to Dupatrick tomorrow to see Stephen Branigan’s family.”
“I am going to say the mass with the community and are going to reach for the family and all what has happened, very surprised by what has happened.”
