Sydney University of Technology, some IT, Mathematics, Physics and B. Tech degree suspended: Is AI convicted?

According to the UTS, the move aims to align the offerings with student interest and industry relevance, while current students remain unaffected.
The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has announced a temporary suspension of the new student Intake for a wide range of courses, including the autumn 2026 semester. This step comes when the university reviews its offerings to ensure that the course remains relevant to both students and employers. Courses with low enrollment numbers are being prevented for potential students, although current students remain unaffected.
Many experts are suggesting that most courses that are being suspended may not be relevant with skills that will be necessary at the age of AI. In addition, after completing these courses, getting a job can prove to be difficult.
The UTS insisted that the suspension of intake is not necessarily closed. Some courses can be prevented while the course is refreshed to meet the needs of the modern industry or to attract student interest. The university aims to maintain a student-centric view and ensure that future students can decide on which programs can proceed without applying for courses that cannot proceed.
This latest review is striking that traditionally suspension of programs for science and technology education. The degrees such as The Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and Bachelor of Science in Physics have been temporarily prevented. This reflects changing student preferences and reflects the decline in enrollment in some STEM regions, even the university continues to expand the popular programs in business, IT and health.
Other courses being suspended include faculties from a comprehensive spectrum, business and design to health, law and engineering. The list includes both graduate and postgraduate programs, professional diploma and graduate certificates.

The UTS clarified that these suspensions are temporary, pending consultation with employees and unions. Some programs may return after the course update, while others can eventually be phased out if they no longer meet the demand of the student or industry.
