Police said on Wednesday that a special sub -inspector of Tamil Nadu Police was attempted to try to resolve the dispute between a person and the later son in Gudimangalam in the district.
According to the police, M Shanmugwell (57), was working as a special sub -inspector at Gudimangalam Police Station in Tiruppur district, and armed Reserve Police Constable Azhaguraja on patrol duty at around 11 am on August 5, reached a private farm when he got information about a drunk dispute between two persons.
After the arrival, the police tried to calm both, but the police officer was attacked with a sickle and the constable chased.

Initial investigation revealed that although Manigandan was suspected to have serious injuries to SSI, his brother Thangapandian and his father Murthy were also involved in attacking the officer and chasing the constable, he said.
While Shanmugvel died on the spot, the constable managed to escape the dialect on his life.

Madthukulam MLA, who first visited SSI’s house and consoled his family members, said that the government should provide jobs to Shanmugvel’s son.
When asked about the incident, Mahendran replied, “Murthy has been appointed only one year ago. We are cooperating with the police. Right now, the affected family needs our support.”
Taking a strong exception to the incident, AIADMK General Secretary Edappi’s Palaniswami demanded to know where the law and order situation was going in Tamil Nadu.
“There are reports that SSI Shanmugvel, who went to investigate a family dispute in Tiruppur district, was killed and a person allegedly committed suicide in SI Chamber at Coimbatore Police Station. What has the Chief Minister said on these incidents?” Palaniswami asked.

He accused the CM of indulging in “diversion tactics”, and called the state government to conduct appropriate investigation into two cases and take appropriate action against the culprits.
In a statement, AMMK general secretary TTV Dinakaran tried to find out that a Chief Minister who cannot protect the SSI would protect the public.
PMK leader Dr. Anbumani Ramdos also condemned the heinous act.
