Computer chip giant Texas Instruments (TI) will invest more than $ 60BN (£ 44.74BN) in the US, as President Donald Trump puts pressure on large technology firms to increase manufacturing in the country.
The company said it plans to build or expand and expand seven chip facilities at three sites in Texas and Utah and build 60,000 jobs. TI did not give a detailed timeline for investment.
The Dallas-based firm described the move as “the biggest investment in basic semiconductor manufacturing in American history”.
This follows the same announcements of other people for the construction of other semiconductors, including Micron, stating last week that it would increase its employed expenses in the US to $ 200BN.
“President Trump has given priority to increase semiconductor manufacturing in the US,” US Secretary Howard Lutnik’s US Secretary, Said in a statement on Wednesday,
“Our partnership with TI will support us to build chip for the coming decades.”
Like some other companies, who unveiled major expenses, TI’s declaration already includes funds to build or expand facilities.
Some analysts have said that they see such major expenses announcements as efforts to calm Trump. The President has repeatedly threatened to cancel the $ 52.7BN chips and the Science Act, which was introduced by his predecessor, Joe Biden.
In December, the Biden administration finalized the $ 1.6BN subsidy for TI after the Biden administration announced a plan to invest at least $ 18bn to build three new features.
Trump has also warned of a possible new tariff on the import of a semiconductor.
Unlike artificial intelligence chip companies such as Nvidia, Texas Instruments form so -called basic chips, which are used in various devices including smartphones and cars.
The company operates 15 sites worldwide, including features in the US and Asia. It counts the iPhone-Maker Apple among its customers, Elon Musk’s rocket firm SpaceX and motor industry giant Ford.
Texas instruments have faced growing competition from Chinese manufacturers of these lower end chips.
