A police officer has been injured on his chest and the liquid was thrown over him as he tried to arrest a person armed with a knife in the scene of the fire.
The firefighters were also threatened with a knife and another police officer needed treatment to breathe smoke during the incident at the Eastern Belfast.
It began when firefighters were called for arson attack in quotes row immediately after 02:15 BST on Sunday and police reported that there was a knife -armed man in an apartment.
Police officials, including members of the Armed Response Unit (Aru), arrested a 35 -year -old man at the scene on suspicion of serious physical damage.
The suspect has also been accused of arson to endanger life and other related crimes.
According to DET Inspector Harvey, both police officers required hospital treatment.
“Our officials quickly responded to the report that they protect the public and our emergency service partners,” he said.
“Threatening and violent behavior towards emergency workers is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
