Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday increased the amount given to Param Vir Chakra Award winners as East-Greetia from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.50 crore. Announcing on the eve of Kargil Vijay Day, Dhami said that apart from this he will continue to receive Rs 3 lakh as annual grant. “The boundaries of our country are safe due to the valor, courage and sacrifice of our brave soldiers … The state government is committed to the welfare of soldiers and their families and is constantly taking concrete and effective decisions to protect their interests,” said Dhami. It is the duty of every citizen to respect the valor, dedication and sacrifice of the soldiers, he said, the description of Uttarakhand is not only the land of Devbhumi (land of the gods), but also Veer Bhoomi (land of brave). In the former Gritiya paid to Param Veer Chandra Award winners, Hike fulfilled a promise made for soldiers at a military Samman ceremony held in Khatima on the occasion of the anniversary of his father’s late Subeder Sher Singh Dhammi. The Chief Minister also released a separate message to salute the bravery of the Indian Army and remembered the sacrifice of the martyred people in the Kargil war. A large number of brave sons from Uttarakhand also sacrificed their lives to protect the country in that war, saying that their sacrifice would continue to motivate the new generation.
