On Wednesday, a local court acquitted former Delhi Commission (DCW) chief and Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal and his then media advisor, Bhupinder Singh, who was accused of revealing the name of a 14 -year -old rape victim, who suffered his injuries in 2016.
The two were acquitted by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Neha Mittal.
The Delhi Police booked Maliwal and Singh, stating that they violated the Kishore Justice Act by revealing the identity of the sexual harassment victim by broadcasting the notice in print and electronic media. Singh was accused of preparing notice. Both were accused of “deliberately broadcast” notice on WhatsApp groups.
As the DCW chief, Maliwal took cognizance of the case in which a neighbor sexually assaulted the 14 -year -old man and forced a corrosive substance under his throat, allegedly damaging his internal organs.
