A stolen aircraft on Tuesday afternoon triggered a major security incident at Vancouver International Airport (YVR), temporarily stopped operations and forced several flights to be rebuilt.
According to a statement by the YVR, the local time period before 1:30 pm on July 15, a “security incident” which included a small private aircraft, causing a temporary stop in the operation of the airport. The aircraft flying within the YVR airspace forced nine upcoming flights to various airports.
Around 1:45 pm, after 39 minutes of air traffic suspension, Sesna 172, operated by a single person, landed safely. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) caught the pilot.
In an air traffic control recording Vancouver received by Sun Through liveatc.net, a controller alerted other pilots: “We have an aircraft that is kidnapped and is in the area around the airport … Just if anything starts then anything starts anything. [you]You have the ability to go to your discretion. ,

“They are currently flying overheads,” a voice of air traffic control can be heard saying. “At this time, I have no further updates. We have aircraft in the visual range – please stand for further instructions.”
Later, air traffic controllers directed the grounded aircraft to stay on Standby during the ongoing condition:
“We are not sure what will happen next. The aircraft continues up, and its intentions are unknown. For now, we are holding the situation.”
The RCMP later confirmed that the aircraft was taken from Victoria International Airport and flew about 40 miles in Vancouver airspace.

A spokesperson of the Vancouver Airport Authority said in a statement to Fox News Digital that the issue involving an aircraft from Victoria Flying Club was resolved without injury.
The statement said, “Safety and security are our top priorities, and we continuously review our procedures and procedures in our operations, our passengers and our airline customers’ service.” “After any important position or emergency operation activation and as part of our standard processes, we debate on what happened and where necessary, recommendations for change or improvement.”

On 16 July, RCMP revealed the identity of the pilot as 39 -year -old Cheer Qasim, now facing allegations of kidnapping. Officials alleged that they threatened a flight instructor in YYJ before keeping control of the aircraft.
RCMP spokesperson SGT. Tammy Lobe stated in a press release that the suspect appeared a “ideological motive” aimed at interrupting air traffic. Fortunately, there was no injury.
Police said the investigation is still in its early stages and is active.
The Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General of British Columbia, Gary Baig, first praised the sharp works of the respondents.

“Police, air traffic control and professionalism shown by the airport employees during today’s incident, posted on X. “Relief was that there were no injuries and normal operations have resumed.”
The airport says that the flights have resumed in YVR, although there may be a slight delay. Passengers are advised to investigate with their airlines for the latest updates.
Fox News reached Digital Royal Canadian Mounted Police, but did not immediately get any response.
