New Delhi: Trinumool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee on Wednesday claimed that former Vice Vice President Jagdeep Dhikar was forced to resign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior cabinet ministers. He further alleged that Dhankhar was “threatened” with an impeachment speed if he did not go down. The TMC leader also said that Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be made the “next vice president of India”.“Jagdeep Dhankhar was forced to resign by the Prime Minister and other cabinet ministers. He was threatened that if he did not resign before 9 pm that day, an impeachment motion would be brought against him. This is a pressure strategy by PM and other cabinet ministers, ”he quoted ANI.“Earlier, an Election Commissioner resigned just before the elections … it is heard that Rajnath Singh will now be made the vice -president,” Banerjee said. The resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar was announced on Monday evening, matching the early day of the monsoon session of Parliament. In his official resignation letter, Dhankhar said, citing health concerns. He said, “To give priority to health care and follow medical advice, I resign as the vice -president of India, immediately effective according to Article 67 (A) of the Constitution,” he wrote. After the resignation, many political leaders questioned its time and official explanation, calling the move suspicious. The Congress suddenly described the exit as a “forced resignation”.Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, as Annie said, “The government should answer why he resigned. I am ‘Dal Mein Kuch Kaal’. His health is fine. The Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi also commented on the issue, alleging that PM Modi’s remarks on Dhankar’s exit indicated that the decision was political in nature.
