A nurse who faced a Trans doctor in a hospital change room, would not have treated trans patients separately from any other patient, a tribunal has heard.
Charlotte Miles, a Clinical Service Manager in NHS Murali, was tasked to review Sandy Pegi’s suspension Dr. After a controversy with Beth Upton – A Trans Woman – On the eve of Christmas on 2023.

Ms. Miles was later questioned by Ms. Pegi’s lawyer Naomi Cunningham.

‘Damage limit’
Ms. Pegi was suspended on 3 January 2024 after the Christmas eve incident, where Dr. Upton said that Ms. Pegi had referred to Isala Bryson, a rapist who is also a transgender.

He believed that it was “to keep them separate in the best interests of both (Dr. Upton and Ms. Pegi)”.
The clinical service manager said that this was a “damage limit” given the previous encounter.
He proposed that Ms. Pegi could work in another hospital, such as an idea dismissed by Queen Margaret Hospital, nurse in Dunfarmline.
Another proposal was that Dr. Upton and Ms. Pegi worked as a different shift pattern, but Ms. Pegi said that Ms. Miles did not feel that she could work in day shifts due to a routine around her family and taking care of her dog.
An agreement was agreed, where Ms. Pegi will work in the weekend and will be maintained during a phased return to work.
