President Donald Trump supported Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s proposal for Moscow, taking full control of the Donbas region and freezing the front lines elsewhere for an agreement with Ukraine, a European diplomat confirmed Fox News.
Donbas had a pre -war population of about 6.5 million and included Luhansk and Donnetsk region.
After a meeting with Putin on Friday in Alaska, Trump told European colleagues that the Russian President reiterated that he wanted prominent Luhansk and Donnetsk regions, but he appeared open to the possibility of ending the deadlock in Zaporizhia and Kherson, as well as with a freeze with front lines.
Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelansky has rejected the idea of surrendering the region in Donbas first.

Zelancesi has refused to withdraw the remaining 30% of Donnetsk that Ukraine still controls. He has said that it would be unconstitutional to do so, and the region can later be used as a staging for Russian attacks.
The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to meet Trump at the White House on Monday.
Trump also reversed his support for a ceasefire and is instead seeking a peace agreement after a meeting with Putin, who has long stated that Moscow is not interested in a temporary Trus and is looking for a long -term disposal that supports Kremlin’s interests.

After a call with Zelancesi and European leaders, Trump said on social media on Saturday that “it was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a peace agreement, which will end the war, and would not only be a ceasefire compromise, which is not often.”
German Chancellor Frederick Merz told ZDF Television that Trump said Russia “is ready to operate the interaction based on the so -called line of contact, not based on administrative boundaries.”
